The sandblasted glass block finish is a process that is applied to the outside surface of the block, it can be applied to either one or both sides. The surface is removes to leave a matt finish, sometimes referred to as opaque. When the surface of the glass is removed it becomes porous, therefore untreated it will become dirty and maintenance will be difficult, even when grout finishing the wall if untreated it will be very difficult to get to a standard that could be called acceptable, however if the sand blast is treated with a professional product such as clearshield this problem will be avoided, as the surface will then be sealed.
Sandblasted glass is a very nice looking product and is mainly used where high obscurity is required i.e. bathrooms and very often to conceal landing levels on stairwells, so it has many uses as well as being great as a design element. The sandblast and clearshield option is not a cheap one, but if it’s going to be done it needs to be done properly, if its not it will have an adverse effect. We supply the best quality sandblasted and clearsheilded glass blocks.
